Insulated shielding suits are essential for live-line work. They not only block electric current but also ensure the safety of operators. Therefore, every detail must be carefully observed when putting on an insulated shielding suit, as even a minor oversight can lead to a safety incident. Today, Hua’an Power is discussing the proper use of insulated shielding suits.

First, before using an insulating shielding suit, inspect its exterior for any damage or breaches. If such defects are found, the suit must not be used. If there is any doubt about the suit’s safety performance, a multimeter and specialized electrodes can be used to measure the suit. The resistance between any two points on the garment that are farthest apart must not exceed the value specified in the relevant standards.
When wearing protective clothing, ensure that the hood, garment, gloves, trousers, socks, and insulating boots are securely connected. In winter, a shielding suit should be worn over cotton-padded outerwear and flame-retardant undergarments. When donning the protective hood, make sure the brim is not lifted and that it fully covers the face.
Because the protective suit acts as an electrostatic shield, it functions as a closed conductive enclosure. In the electrostatic balance, this conductive enclosure contains only external charges; all current flows through the protective suit, resulting in virtually zero current passing through the human body during operation and thereby providing protection for electricians.
The shielding suit is made of metallic materials. If the human body is suspended in mid-air, it will be at the same electric potential as you. If it is in contact with the ground, the metal resistance of the shielding suit is lower than yours. With this metallic path, electric current will not flow from your body to the earth.
