Disposable Isolation Gowns are used to prevent contamination of staff clothing while caring for patients. If staff may splash body fluids on their skin or clothing during operation, they should wear a gown, apron, or laboratory gown. Disposable Isolation Gowns are also worn when staff members' arms may come into contact with a patient's blood, body fluids or broken skin.
(1) Procedure for Wearing Disposable Isolation Gowns
1. Pick up Disposable Isolation Gowns with both hands
2. Lift the collar with the right hand, put the left hand into the sleeve, and pull the collar up with the right hand, exposing the left hand
3. Hold the collar with the left hand, and put the right hand into the sleeve, revealing the right hand, and do not touch the face.
4. Hold the collar with both hands, and tie the neckband from the center of the collar to the back along the edge
5. Tie the belt with both hands behind your back
(2) Procedure for removing contaminated Disposable Isolation Gowns
1. Unbuckle the gown belt and remove gloves (if applicable). Wash hands and then dry in operating room. Then untie the tie at the back of the neck. Begin by retracting one hand into the cuff of the gown.
2. Do not touch the outside of the cuff; because the outside is dirty, hands are now clean.
3. Remove the second sleeve with the hand wrapped around the sleeve inside the retracted cuff.
4. Do not touch the outside of the gown, and fold the contaminated outer layers of the gown face-to-face. Then roll it into a ball. Note that hands should only touch the inner layer of the gown during the entire procedure. Non-disposable gowns should be collected in designated containers in the patient's room. Disposable gowns should be properly disposed of in a covered trash can in the patient's room. Remember not to hold contaminated Disposable Isolation Gowns near your work clothes.
5. Wash your hands again before leaving the room.
